Everyone can become a 'crazy' one!
Lately, I've been watching a Korean drama, Criminal Minds. And I want to tell about a things I realized from that drama.
In the third episode, a delusional patient arrested after making a big fuss on the train. At the end of the case, a character names Lee Han said that his mother talked to illusions like the patient, and wonders if he’ll be like that in the future. Ki-hyun (another character) reminds Lee Han that inheriting his mother’s mental illness is only a possibility and not a reality. As a finishing touch, then Lee Han narrates a quote from Sally Kempton in voiceover, “It’s hard to fight against an enemy who has outposts in your head.”
I was studying about psychology and I know exactly that mental illness may decline genetically. In fact, almost all people have a few percent of genes carrying mental illness. But, the gene is only active with certain triggers. And just as every human being is unique, the trigger of every people is different.
Hence, there are people who experience schizophrenia because of failure in the general election. There are people who experience insomnia because of the pressure of work. There are people who experience claustrophobia because it was once trapped in a small room. Some people have pedophiles because they have been sexually abused.
Everyone reacts differently to every situation.

Back again about mental illness genes. Just as everyone carries the cancer gene, it's just that the person then suffering from cancer or not determined by lifestyle, diet, and so on. Same with we all have the possibility of suffering from mental illness. Whatever it is. Determined by stress management, knowledge, and social support.
Having a family with mental illness is not a disgrace. Because we have a responsible. We are not empathy, we are not sensitive, we are not listening, we are not encouraging enough.
Mental illness is not the end of everything. Because unlike some physical diseases are clearly deadly. Almost all mental illness can be cured. With note, with proper treatment and cooperation of all people concerned. Not easy indeed. Not even in a short time. It costs huge money. But the hope remains.
If we just give up on them. Then to whom else they can hope?
